Print, packaging and marketing company SunDance has expanded its Pouch flexible packaging solution into the cereal market, offering an alternative to the traditional bag-in-box format.
The company says its Pouch solution features a patented cuboid flexible structure designed to deliver the merchandising advantages of a box while improving material use, branding opportunities and supply-chain efficiency. It also maintains a structured, box-like shape and has six printable panels.
According to SunDance, POUCH³ uses approximately 30% to 40% less material than conventional stand-up pouches and can be produced using recyclable and post-consumer recycled film structures, depending on product and performance requirements.
The printable surfaces aim to give brands room to highlight product benefits, sustainability messaging, recipes and other content across the package. SunDance offers digital printing for Pouch to support shorter runs for limited-time offers, seasonal flavours, regional promotions and market tests. The packaging is engineered to reduce headspace and maximize usable volume while supporting efficient case packing, pallet utilization, warehouse storage and shipping density.
“The cereal aisle is an ideal setting for this technology,” says Kandi Johansmeyer, senior vice president of Sales & Marketing at SunDance. “Pouch gives brands a differentiated package with premium graphics and strong shelf impact while helping them use space and materials more efficiently. It is an opportunity to modernize one of the grocery aisle’s most recognizable formats.”
In June, Walki and Dow revealed a mono-material MDO-PE pouch with a matte finish, set to unlock recyclability and high performance for frozen food packaging in compliance with the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR). Other potential applications include dry food products like cereals and fresh food in modified atmosphere packaging applications.
Last month WeighPack Systems announced its new Swifty S-3600 Duplex high-speed pre-made pouch bagger, part of its Swifty Bagger portfolio, said to deliver increased throughput and maintain precise pouch handling across a range of applications. The system’s two independent pouch lanes have dedicated pouch pick up, opening, filling and sealing stations.
