Earlier this year RDM Group and Dow collaborated on the Multiboard CirculaRR fibre-based food packaging solution combining RDM’s Vincicoat PLUS recycled cartonboard with advanced recycled polymers, designed to provide both functionality and sustainability for brands. RDM details these solutions in this Spotlight.
Multiboard CirculaRR is made entirely from recycled inputs: recycled fibres form the cartonboard core, while a thin coating of recycled polyethylene ensures the barrier performance required for food-contact applications. The solution is suitable for a wide range of uses including frozen food packaging, fruit trays and dry pet food, where resistance and product protection are critical.
Built on RDM Group’s established Multiboard Barrier platform, the new product features a low polymer content - around 5% by weight - making it compatible with existing mixed paper recycling streams. This design approach reflects a fundamental principle behind CirculaRR: not only using recycled materials but ensuring the packaging can be effectively recycled at end of life.
The circular profile of the solution is further validated by internationally recognised certifications. The plastic component is certified under the ISCC PLUS scheme, confirming the use of recycled feedstock from advanced recycling processes, while food-contact compliance has been independently verified. In addition, recyclability has been assessed according to the 4evergreen protocol, supporting its integration into established paper recovery systems.
Multiboard CirculaRR has been developed to help brands anticipate regulatory developments, particularly the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), which will require all packaging to be recyclable by 2030 and introduce targets for recycled content. By combining performance, compliance, and circularity, the solution enables converters and brand owners to respond proactively to these requirements without compromising on product protection or operational efficiency.
The innovation also highlights the importance of collaboration across the value chain. By integrating expertise in fibre-based materials with advanced polymer capabilities, RDM Group has created a solution that bridges traditional material boundaries and contributes to a more holistic approach to packaging circularity. At the same time, the role of partner technologies remains complementary and carefully integrated within the overall RDM-driven design.

A broader innovation portfolio: Vincicoat PLUS, the strong recycled cartonboard
Multiboard CirculaRR is part of RDM Group’s wider innovation strategy focused on circularity and resource efficiency. The previous product, launched earlier this year, is a packaging cartonboard that reduces packaging weight while maximizing recycled fibre content: Vincicoat PLUS, a next-generation coated recycled cartonboard designed to deliver up to 15–20% higher strength than standard grades.
Thanks to its enhanced structural performance, Vincicoat PLUS enables packaging weight reductions of up to 20% or improved pack strength and product protection at the same grammage. The Vincicoat PLUS range also includes a hard-sized option engineered for low water absorbency, specifically designed to excel in demanding conditions such as frozen applications like pizza, ice-creams, and frozen food in general.
This approach supports both environmental and economic benefits by reducing material use, resource demand and logistics impacts. Vincicoat PLUS is designed to support evolving regulatory requirements including the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) by enabling packaging weight reduction, maximizing recycled fibre content and supporting circularity principles.
