SPS 2026

Registration has opened for this year’s Sustainable Packaging Summit, taking place on the 10th-12th November at Jaarbeurs Utrecht, bringing together 1,000 packaging professionals across panels, workshops and keynotes, headlined by former Unilever chief executive Paul Polman and PepsiCo’s Archana Jagannathan.

Other speakers include representatives from Amazon, Mars, AB InBev, Mondelez, Nestlé, McDonald’s, Nike, Lidl, LEGO and Walmart. Aiming to represent the full packaging ecosystem, innovators, regulators and NGO leaders from across the packaging value chain are due to attend, as well as brand owners, material producers, recyclers, logistics experts and industry associations.

The event programme covers topics such as advanced recycling, AI-driven innovation and the evolving landscape for paper-based packaging; the business case for circular transformation; the latest implications of PPWR and EPR regulation and lessons from reuse pilots. It also features interactive debates and closed-door workshops, designed to give attendees space for broad discussion and focused problem-solving.

“The overriding idea of this year’s Summit is identifying viable solutions to packaging’s sustainability obligations,” says Tim Sykes, brand director at Packaging Europe. “The mission is bringing together the diverse viewpoints of business leaders, tech disruptors, EPR specialists and regulators and channelling their insights into joined-up impact. It’s the one place where you can hear a Fortune 500 chief executive and a European Commission official speak openly about their challenges on the same stage, and then continue that conversation over a drink.”

Last year’s event was attended by 854 delegates, 142 speakers and 89 exhibitors and was the most internationally diverse event so far, with attendees hailing from countries including the United States, China, India, Brazil, and Ethiopia.

The Summit also hosts Packaging Europe’s Sustainability Awards which showcases innovations from start-ups and universities to global brands and manufacturers, covering areas such as technology, climate, best practice and recyclable packaging. Last year’s winners included Papacks’ moulded fibre bottle, Avery Dennison’s Vidre+ smart label for fruits and vegetables and SIPA’s direct flake-to-preform technology.
