Mondi FlowWrap

Mondi has launched its re/loop FlowWrap solution for wet wipe packaging, containing 35% post-consumer recycled (PCR) content and aiming to replace non-recyclable laminates for applications requiring a customizable barrier.

Seeking to help customers in the home and personal care industry transition to more sustainable polymer-based packaging, the new solution is a form-fill-and-seal solution (FFS) made from mono-polypropylene (PP), compatible with polypropylene (PP) mechanical recycling according to the CEFLEX D4ACE guidelines.

Compatible with existing packaging lines, Mondi states that internal testing and customer trials demonstrated re/loop FlowWrap’s performance is comparable to virgin-based alternatives, including reliable sealing, barrier protection and smooth machinability for wet wipes applications. Integrating 35% PCR content aims to align with the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation target of 35% recycled content from post-consumer plastic waste, starting from from 1st January 2030.

Mondi and IMA Ilapak showcased re/loop FlowWrap live on packaging machinery at this year’s INDEX fair in May.

“With this launch, we show that wet wipes packaging can move towards circularity without sacrificing performance,” said Alessandro D’Agostino, business development manager for Home and Personal Care at Mondi Consumer Flexibles. “By combining a material designed for recycling with PCR content and excellent machinability, we help customers transition faster towards sustainable packaging solutions while maintaining operational efficiency.”

In March, ExxonMobil Signature Polymers and Reifenhäuser teamed up on a ‘high-performance’ stretch hood film incorporating up to 35% post-consumer recycled (PCR) content, aiming to address contamination and inconsistency issues with household-sourced PCR in stretch hood applications. According to ExxonMobil, the new film delivers good holding force and elastic recovery, helping to ensure secure load containment and goods protection during transit.

More recently, Dreco packaged its powder detergent in Mondi’s re/loop PillowBag, which contains 50% post-consumer recycled content and is recyclable in existing polyolefin streams. Mondi has applied a mass balance approach under its ISCC PLUS certification in pursuit of transparency and traceability across its supply chain.
