ResponsibleGlass has launched the first public consultation on its International Standard for Glassmaking draft, from 20th July-18th September 2026. The draft covers all aspects of glass production including legal compliance, transparency and reporting, responsible sourcing and design for sustainability and circularity.
Developed by the ResponsibleGlass board, management team and stakeholders in line with the ResponsibleGlass International Standards development procedures, the draft and builds on feedback received during the consultation on the Preliminary Proposals published earlier this year.
The organisation says the consultation document sets out the first complete draft of its International Standard for glassmaking, covering the ‘full spectrum’ of glass production from governance, in-use and end-of-life impacts and engagement with local communities to waste management and supporting guidance. The document includes a glossary of terms, bibliography and information on future chain of custody and claims requirements.
ResponsibleGlass states that all comments received by 18th September 2026 will be reviewed by the ResponsibleGlass secretariat and published after the consultation closes. The feedback will be used to develop a second draft of the standard planned for publication in 2027, with the final standard expected to be formally approved in 2028.
In related news, earlier this year glass packaging company Croxsons announced its Rightweight solution for glass bottles and jars in the food and drink sector, said to potentially reduce glass packaging weight by up to 30%. The company states the solution increases recyclability, minimizes the amount of packaging waste going to landfill and reduces EPR (Extended Producer Responsibility) costs.
