Securikett

Securikett has revealed its latest technology for product and security labels, aiming to make them harder to replicate through features including integrated viewing windows, technical openings and ventilation holes.

The company says the labels’ structured silicone coating enables these features and provides additional protection against counterfeiting. The technology is based on a special coating technique used during the production of the label material.

During manufacturing, precisely defined areas can be die-cut from the label and remain on the liner while the actual label separates from it. According to Securikett, this allows product windows, small openings, or other special structures to be created directly within the label.

The company adds that because the precise structures are created during the material manufacturing process, they are very difficult for counterfeiters to reproduce. This allows manufacturers to integrate additional features into their products and increase protection against counterfeiting, while the labels remain compatible with standard application processes.

In other labelling news, Polytag, Saica Flex, and Paragon Inks have teamed up to print invisible UV tags on packaging labels and track item-level recycling data in line with environmental legislation and reporting requirements. Polytag’s detection systems can scan the labels and capture real-time, item-level data as the packaging moves through the recycling stream.

In the food packaging space, Marks & Spencer has responded to backlash against ultra-processed foods and previous criticism of its on-label transparency by displaying its stripped-back ingredient lists on the front label of its packaging. Last year, the Real Bread Campaign alleged that one of the retailer’s white bread products contained eleven ingredients, despite only disclosing four on its packaging; and that its sunflower and spelt loaf contained thirteen ingredients, rather than the six declared on-label.
