Securikett has revealed a new technology designed to replace conventional heat sealing for trays with a secure labelling solution, said to be ‘safer, faster, and more cost-efficient’ than traditional heat-sealing processes.
The tray is securely closed by the label instead of a traditional welded lid and can be applied automatically using labelling or dispensing systems. The solution integrates structured adhesive coatings, built-in VOID technology, precisely applied silicone coatings and custom die-cutting technologies within one label.
Securikett adds that the tamper-evident seal immediately indicates if a package has been opened or tampered with through the integrated VOID effect. Functional elements such as ventilation holes or viewing windows can also be directly incorporated into the label.
“We have combined multiple technologies so that they work together within a single label,” explains Vanessa Mitterer-Kling, head of Research and Development at Securikett. “This creates a packaging solution that is not only tamper-evident but can also be efficiently integrated into existing production processes. While tamper-evident security solutions have been used for years, for example in cash transport pouches, this development now introduces comparable security mechanisms for tray and cup packaging for the first time.”
Back in April, the company introduced its latest technology for product and security labels, aiming to make them harder to replicate through features including integrated viewing windows, technical openings and ventilation holes. During manufacturing, precisely defined areas can be die-cut from the label and remain on the liner while the actual label separates from it.
In other labelling news, A4 Labels recently announced its Ocean Action Labels range made using ocean-bound plastic, aiming to help brands reduce reliance on virgin fossil-based materials and tackle marine plastic pollution. A4 Labels states that the range is ISCC PLUS certified using the mass balance approach and suitable for applications such as food and cosmetics packaging.
