Aptar Closures has released its flow control valve and retaining ring combination system with ‘contactless, leak-free dispensing’, targeting the reusable beverage containers market.
Aptar says its SureSnap system features an elastomeric valve combined with a polyolefin retaining ring, available in a range of sizes, opening pressures, and flow rates to suit a range of containers, products, and customer needs. All valves are phthalate and BPA-free and moulded from food-grade materials.
SureSnap can reportedly withstand ‘thousands of cycles’ without failure, making it suitable for multi-use reusable applications, and it can be used for hot and cold beverages, dishwasher-safe or microwave-safe applications due to its high durability.
Aptar states the preassembled system offers an efficient assembly process with a mechanical snap-fit. Apparently, SureSnap eliminates the need for specialized equipment and expertise in flexible part handling and assembly, reducing production time, complexity, and improving quality.
The company adds that its small minimum order quantities and short lead times make it suitable for companies seeking smaller volume applications and speed to market. Potential applications for the system include reusable beverage container brand owners offering water bottles, thermoses and children’s sip cups.
According to Aptar, SureSnap’s SimpliSqueeze flow control valve opens with a normal squeeze and closes when that squeeze is released. No contact with the closure is necessary, mitigating the potential for unintentional dispensing or foreign particle ingress.
The valve is said to offer a steady dispensing stream and clean cutoff, allowing users to keep their mouths separate from the bottle. The system can be applied to reusable beverage containers with integrated or removable straws.
Last year Aptar Closures introduced its 2” Disc Top Lite solution, said to be 23% lighter than standard disc tops. Available in polypropylene (PP) and post-consumer recycled (PCR) content, the company stated the reduced part weight also leads to a decrease in plastic usage.
Berry Global recently unveiled a recyclable, multi-purpose sip lid for its Reusable Cup range, the lid is intended for both reuse and reclosure, with a ‘liquid-tight’ fit set to keep the cup leak-proof and secure in transit. The lid is also designed to be stackable, dishwasher-safe, and usable with or without a straw.
