Aptar Closures is unveiling three tamper-evident and recyclable closures for sports beverages – setting its sights on lightweighted bottles, improved security, and an enhanced drinking experience.
Each of the new closures is intended to comply with the Single-Use Plastics Directive and the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation, while also meeting performance expectations in such product applications as water, juices, and sports and energy drinks.
Recommended for both ambient and dry aseptic fill applications, the NexTE 29.25 Sport Closure is designed to be ‘sleek’ and ‘streamlined’. It facilitates one-hand opening and features a visible, non-detachable tamper-evidence band, which can be flexed back in an opening motion.
This closure is anticipated to be user-friendly, improving the drinking experience, while also complying with EU-wide regulation.
Meanwhile, the three-piece Rocket GME 30.40 Sport Closure features a wide opening for comfortable drinking; its advanced hinge technology facilitates spring-back in hopes of improving the user’s drinking experience.
Like the previous closure, Rocket’s tamper-evident band cannot be removed. It is set to improve a bottle’s security by warning consumers if the closure has been opened previously.
In line with the Single-Use Plastics Directive, the closure is fully tethered and recyclable, and it is once again recommended for ambient and dry aseptic fill applications. It claims to help customers transition into a lighter neck finish and reduce bottle weight without affecting the drinking experience.
An optional thermoplastic elastomer valve is currently available, and multiple neck finishes are currently in development.
Additionally, the lightweight, mono-polypropylene Balance GME 30.40 Sport Closure targets both ease of use and recyclability. It is another closure designed to help lightweight bottles, facilitate one-hand opening, and provide visual tamper evidence.
When it is closed, the closure makes a ‘click’ sound, providing audible and tactile reassurance that the bottle is secure. This variant is explicitly geared towards active lifestyles, integrating an active hinge to keep the lid out of the way when drinking, and also offers an optional thermoplastic elastomer valve.
All three closures will be displayed on Aptar Closures’ stand (Hall C6, Stand C6-342) at Drinktec 2025 on 15th – 19th September 2025.
“Aptar Closures is committed to developing forward-thinking solutions that elevate user experiences while supporting our partners’ sustainability goals and regulatory requirements,” said Nicola Maffi, director, Operational Marketing, Closures EMEA at Aptar Closures. “Our expanded portfolio of sport closures combines functionality, consumer convenience, and eco-conscious design, and we’re excited to debut them at Drinktec 2025.”
The development comes after Aptar Closures revealed a flow control valve and retaining ring combination system earlier this year. Geared towards the reusable beverage containers market, it claims to facilitate contactless and leak-free dispensing.
Similarly, Husky Technologies’ designed-for-circularity water bottle closure made from PET was a nominee and winner in the Pre-Commercialized Driving the Circular Economy category of last year’s Sustainability Awards. Like Aptar Closures’ new solutions, it features a tamper-proof sealing system and technique and a tethered option to align with EU legislation, and claims to help lightweight bottles.
