Colorcon has revealed OneLock, its all-in-one closure system for moisture-sensitive oral dosage products – featuring a built-in desiccant and child-resistant component for protection and simplicity.

A desiccant has been integrated directly into the closure – a move set to negate the need for a separate desiccant canister or packet. At the same time, it lessens the risk of desiccants coming loose or going missing, improving confidence in a pack’s integrity throughout the supply chain.

The system also contains a tamper-evident disk and a child-resistant push-and-turn system to ensure patient safety.

The closure is suitable for various SP 400 bottles. It is designed to be adopted with minimal production disruption and to integrate seamlessly into existing filling lines.

OneLock is anticipated to extend the shelf life and efficacy of solid, moisture-sensitive oral dosage forms throughout their life cycle. It is designed to be a single, easy-to-use solution, helping pharmaceutical and nutraceutical manufacturers reduce packaging complexity and streamline their filling operations.

“OneLock is a reflection of our ongoing commitment to solving real-world challenges for our global customers,” said Dave Bain, vice president—Functional Packaging at Colorcon. “By simplifying the packaging process, OneLock was designed to help customers operate more efficiently while safeguarding product quality.”

ACG recently unveiled its own desiccant-based cold-form laminate, DryPod. Engineered to protect moisture-sensitive drug molecules, the innovation is set to address limited availability, rigid technologies and compatibility issues.

Freudenberg Performance Materials’ customizable fine denier spunbond nonwoven materials can also be used to manufacture lightweight desiccant bags, among other products. The technology is said to extend the lifespan of dessicant bags with high strength, durability, and abrasion resistance.

In other news, Live Puri intends to lower its CO2 footprint by implementing fibre-based caps from Blue Ocean Closures for its vitamin products. These will replace its previous metal closures.
