Amcor 13.04

Amcor has introduced a new 55 mm closure targeting applications such as mayonnaise, ketchup and sweet sauces, said to be a ‘lightweighted upgrade’ compared to previous versions.

The company says its Flava Flip Top Closure 38/400 is designed for circularity to help brand owners meet their sustainability goals. Amcor has reportedly achieved a weight reduction of 1.9g bringing the new cap’s weight down to 8.5g, a 18.7% reduction compared to the earlier generation of the 55mm Flip Top Closure.

Amcor adds that the mono-material cap is available in a variety of orifice sizes and circular valves and is ‘recyclable-ready’ with PET, HDPE and PP bottles, where the appropriate recycling infrastructure is in place. The Flava closure is available in a variety of colours, and the closure can be paired with a range of PET and HDPE bottles from Amcor’s portfolio.

“The new Flava Flip Top Closure will help customers reach their carbon reduction targets thanks to its lighter design,” said Peter Briggs, UK sales director of Food and Beverage at Amcor. “However, while weight saving is critical in reducing the carbon impact of the closure, it does not compromise performance. Getting this balance right is crucial for consumers. They can be reassured that the product can be dispensed cleanly and easily.”

Earlier this year, The Kraft Heinz Company developed a fry box with a built-in ketchup compartment, designed for on-the-go consumption. The patent-pending Heinz Dipper is designed to be ‘simple, intuitive and mess-free’.

TerraCycle and Taco Bell have just announced that over five years, one million sauce packets and single-serve containers have been collected through the Taco Bell Sauce Container US Recycling Program, to be repurposed or recycled. The programme accepts all brands and types of empty sauce containers and is open to anyone across the contiguous U.S.
