Ardagh Glass Packaging Europe (AGP Europe) has launched a new 300g lightweight glass wine bottle, seeking to combine ‘ultra-lightweight design’ with high strength and premium shelf appeal.

AGP Europe says the new bottle aims to deliver on three fronts: material reduction, structural performance, and brand presentation. The 300g 75cl bottle - said to be ideal for still wines - is designed to perform on high-speed filling lines, withstand supply chain handling, and maintain the visual appeal expected of glass packaging while delivering a significant reduction in bottle weight.

“This is more than a lightweight bottle, it’s a complete packaging solution,” said Nick Witton, sales director at Ardagh Glass Packaging UK. “We’ve developed a 300g bottle that also delivers the strength and premium look that brands and consumers demand.”

AGP Europe recently announced plans to produce the ‘world’s first’ emerald green bottles from its NextGen Furnace for Jägermeister. AGP Europe’s NextGen Furnace in Obernkirchen, Germany features hybrid technology that uses 42 electrodes said to enable up to 80% electrical heating.

In related news, Ardagh Glass Packaging North America (AGP North America) introduced a new bottle colour and closure option to its 12oz Heritage glass beer bottle portfolio in January. The two Heritage bottles are available in flint (clear) glass with a pry-off closure and amber (brown) glass with a twist-off closure.
