Saxco and Revino

Beverage packaging provider Saxco has announced a strategic partnership with Revino to distribute its reusable glass wine bottles to producers throughout the United States, said to achieve up to 85% emissions reduction compared to standard single-use bottles.

Revino claims to have seen broad adoption of its reusable bottle system, with over 100 winery partners and over 1 million bottles in circulation. Revino’s platform aims to simplify the adoption of proven reuse models, helping wineries significantly reduce their environmental footprint without sacrificing brand integrity.

According to Revino, its returnable and reusable glass bottles provide up to 85% emissions reductions compared to standard single-use bottles and are carbon neutral after three reuses, while suitable for up to 50 reuses. Working with Saxco is expected to provide wineries with logistical planning and hands-on packaging support benefits.

The glass bottles seek to provide wineries with cost savings, thanks to tariff-free manufacturing in the United States and their ability to be sanitized and reused. The bottles are also set to reduce landfill waste while meeting increasing industry demand and regulatory requirements such as Extended Producer Responsibility legislation.

Back in April, Frugalpac’s paper wine bottles hit the shelves at US retailer Target, anticipated to save almost 87.8 tonnes of CO2 emissions due to its 94% recycled paperboard content and certified recyclable plastic pouch. The bottle is said to use 77% less plastic than a plastic bottle, utilizing only 15g compared to a 64g bottle made from 100% recycled plastic.

A few months later, Ardagh Glass Packaging Europe (AGP Europe) unveiled a new 300g lightweight glass wine bottle, seeking to combine ‘ultra-lightweight design’ with high strength and premium shelf appeal. The 300g 75cl bottle is designed to perform on high-speed filling lines, withstand supply chain handling, and deliver a ‘significant reduction’ in bottle weight.
