Tetra Pak 04.11.25

Tetra Pak has launched its Automation and Digitalization portfolio, Tetra Pak Factory OS, a suite of ‘modular, open and scalable’ smart factory technologies designed for food and beverage production, aiming to ‘lay the foundation’ for AI-ready factories.

The company says its new portfolio features a data integration platform powered by open technologies, analytics and industry standards. It connects equipment and systems throughout the factory, to unify data into one real-time view. Tetra Pak hopes this can help food and beverage producers to deliver consistent product quality, enhance efficiency, reduce utility usage, and lower total cost of ownership.

Tetra Pak’s Factory OS standardizes data collection across all equipment regardless of age or supplier, seeking to ensure full compatibility and scalability. Other features include a unified user experience that enables ‘seamless’ interaction across lines, equipment and control rooms; a suite of digital applications for real-time monitoring of materials, quality, production and asset performance; and enterprise-level insights powered by contextualized, factory-wide integration.

Developed in collaboration with Accenture, Tetra Pak adds that the portfolio is supported by an ecosystem including Siemens, Rockwell Automation and Inductive Automation.

This summer we heard from Aldo Fontana, Global Product Manager at Tetra Pak, about the company’s ‘industry-first’ paper-based cap for its carton packages, made from 87% renewable content. By increasing the paper content, the company aims to help reduce the carbon footprint and optimize recycling.

The following month, Unilever, Amcor, and Asahi announced they were trialling Deepnest, Greyparrot’s AI waste intelligence platform that provides brands with product-level recyclable waste data and addresses knowledge gaps. Using Greyparrot Analyzer AI-camera systems in material recovery facilities, it follows packaging through the waste system and records which units are sorted, recycled, or lost.
