Sun-Maid Growers of California and The Pokémon Company International have launched limited-edition six-pack cartons of raisins – set to promote healthy snacking during the back-to-school season.

Coinciding with Pokémon’s 30th anniversary, the new cartons are intended as a ‘fun addition’ to school snacks and lunches – introducing the iconic character Pikachu to Sun-Maid’s established ‘little red box’ format.

Sun-Maid hopes to encourage Pokémon fans of all ages to showcase their love for the franchise while choosing a whole-fruit snack with zero added sugar. Consumers who enjoy animation and/or healthy eating are also urged to pick up a carton to eat at home or on the go.

“Sun-Maid has been part of lunchboxes for generations and remains a snack parents can feel good about,” said Steve Loftus, CEO of Sun‑Maid Growers of California. “This is a great example of how we keep that legacy relevant, combining the goodness people expect from Sun-Maid with an experience that brings extra excitement to everyday snack time.

“This special Pikachu packaging is especially iconic given this year is Pokémon’s 30th anniversary. It is a bold, fun snack option that also builds on Sun-Maid’s trusted legacy with fans of all ages.”

The cartons are available while supplies last at major retailers and online.

Earlier this year, the Pokémon Company joined forces with Hershey’s Kisses to celebrate its anniversary with a limited-edition collection and ‘narrative-driven experience’. The limited-edition Poké Ball foil designs were accompanied by an on-pack QR code and social media posts to engage with the story of franchise villains Team Rocket attempting to steal packaging variant.

In another franchise tie-in, Kyrö Distillery Company has integrated Woamy’s biodegradable and recyclable biofoam into a limited-edition whisky tasting set inspired by HBO’s Game of Thrones. Inspired by the fictional world of Westeros and the theme of ‘Fire and Blood’, the promotional tasting set was featured in exclusive releases to selected partners and media representatives.

Nature Valley has also developed commemorative packaging and merchandise kits to encourage consumers to visit national parks across the United States. The campaign draws upon Nature Valley’s long-term partnership with the National Park Foundation and depicts landmarks such as Yellowstone National Park, Yosemite National Park, and the Grand Canyon.
