Identiv and Tag-N-Trac plan to develop and commercialize a smart labelling solution for cold chain tracking across pharmaceutical supply chains in a new strategic business development and marketing partnership.
Identiv’s advanced BLE smart labels will be combined with Tag-N-Trac’s SaaS platform, RELATIVITY. The latter is designed to provide real-time, item-level visibility from origin to delivery, and claims to be an ‘industry-first’ single platform for in-warehouse and in-transit traceability.
The BLE labels are designed to capture raw environmental data throughout the transportation of a product. RELATIVITY turns this data into real-time analytics to monitor a product’s location, condition, and chain-of-custody status.
Since it monitors ambient conditions like item temperature and humidity, the platform aims to ensure that temperature-sensitive products maintain compliance and integrity across the cold chain.
Identiv and Tag-N-Trac recommend their solutions for vaccines, biologics, and other temperature-sensitive medications or high-value products. Their strategic partnership is anticipated to support their respective commitments to ‘smarter, more connected pharmaceutical supply chains through specialized IoT solutions’.
“As regulatory requirements and patient safety concerns grow, real-time data and visibility into the pharmaceutical cold chain have become critical,” said Kirsten Newquist, CEO at Identiv. “Our strategic partnership with Tag-N-Trac supports pharmaceutical customers with smart, scalable IoT solutions that meet rigorous regulatory standards while optimizing operational efficiency.”
“Cold chain visibility is one of the most complex and vital challenges in pharmaceutical distribution and logistics,” added Venu Gutlapalli, CEO of Tag-N-Trac. “Together with Identiv, we’re delivering a comprehensive digital solution that gives pharmaceutical companies the confidence and data intelligence to manage temperature-sensitive products safely, efficiently, and in full compliance.”
A previous development saw Avery Dennison work with Controlant, a digital platform provider for pharma supply chains, to unveil the Saga Card; this compact monitoring device is designed to combine with Controlant’s Aurora cloud platform and drive real-time, end-to-end visibility and support sustainability initiatives in the pharma industry.
In another IoT solution, Giesecke+Devrient’s reusable G+D Smart Label is designed to unlock location tracking, tamper protection, proof of delivery, and other benefits when delivering luxury goods. It combines hardware, an iSIM, IoT connectivity, and an IoT platform to manage connection and firmware updates in an easy-to-use, ‘all-in-one’ solution.
Meanwhile, Ericsson and iot squared have launched the Ericsson Connected Recycling platform in Saudi Arabia. Said to trace circular material flows, automate reporting processes, and monetize waste, the platform is set to help Alshaya Group divert over 50% of its waste from landfills, track it in real time, and integrate recycled content back into its packaging.
