Amcor has helped Ocean Potion develop a 3.4 oz laminate tube for its new sunscreen product, overcoming printing challenges to achieve a colourful and consistent design.
Ocean Potion developed its mineral-based zinc oxide formula, Mineral Kids SPF 30 Sunscreen Lotion, specifically for children’s skin.
In the latest of several years of collaboration, Amcor has helped Ocean Potion develop a highly reflective blue vignette on the bottom half of the tube to represent the sun reflecting from the ocean waves. Its yellow cap is included to mirror the Ocean Potion logo at the top of the tube.
Amcor has used its advanced printing capabilities and expertise in laminating tubes to help develop a process involving multiple layers of flexographic printing, create high-quality graphics, and unlock a watery ripple texture to the blue vignette.
Reportedly, all twelve stations on the printing press were used to unlock the tube’s bright colour. A clear overlaminate has been used to protect the integrity of the inks.
While seams can present challenges when forming tubes that include metallic foils and inks, the partners have secured uninterrupted graphics across all 360° of the pack.
“We were excited to welcome the Ocean Potion team to our Creative Services Studio in Evansville to collaborate on their vision for this product line extension,” said Zach Scheller, product line director for Amcor Rigid Packaging Solutions North America. “When we completed this tube design together, we knew we’d created something truly special. It’s a fresh look that’s ready for summer fun in the sun.”
“Amcor has been a great partner to us for years, and this work on our new mineral sunscreen product line extension was no exception,” added Rasheda Jackson, general manager for Ocean Potion. “We value the creativity, agility, attention to detail and technical skills that Amcor brings to every project. This complex artwork will make a splash on shelves as families prepare to get outdoors.”
In other news, Quadpack previously collaborated with suncare brand Hei Poa to develop a mono-material, 50% post-consumer recycled pack for its first facial stick product. The pack is set reduce plastic content and facilitate recycling.
Neopac Group’s PaperX FibreTop tube has also been certified as technically recyclable in the conventional paper stream by the PTS Institute. The tube consists of a paper laminate with an ultra-thin PE-EVOH inner coating and an outer dispersion layer.
In another collaboration, Amcor recently worked alongside Mondelēz International, LyondellBasell and Taghleef Industries to implement 75% chemically recycled content into the flexible packaging for Marabou chocolate bars.
