X-Rite and Esko 13.06.25

X-Rite has collaborated with Esko to include its eXact 2 handheld spectrophotometer in Esko’s Print Clone software, an AI-powered solution seeking to simplify and accelerate colour matching in digital production environments.

The eXact 2 and Print Clone solution aims to enable digital press printers to reproduce colour from any previously printed packaging with speed and precision, reducing make-ready time and minimizing waste.

Digital press operators can upload PDFs into Print Clone and measure physical print samples using the eXact 2 for real-time print and press profiling. Print Clone’s AI-powered algorithms calculate the target colour profile to ensure digital press output meets brand specifications.

Cindy Cooperman, vice president of Brand Global Strategic Accounts at X-Rite Pantone, commented: “Print Clone is a great example of how we’re working together to bring AI-powered automation to the digital pressroom - helping brands and their print suppliers reduce manual steps, improve accuracy, and keep pace with the demands of modern packaging production.”

In related news, in April JUNG stated it had invested in HP’s Indigo 200K digital printing press, claiming to save on time and setup costs for short-run, customizable collections of its branded tissue paper and gift wrap for luxury applications. Apparently, the press supports faster lead times and spares customers from the commitment of large production volumes.

The following month, Dennis Van Ijzerloo, export manager at Barberán, made the case for single-pass digital print as part of our In Conversation With… series. Van Ijzerloo ran us through the evolution of digital print in the packaging space, the advantages it has over conventional printing technologies, and how packaging manufacturers could benefit from Barberán’s solutions, including its HS Series.
