JUNG has invested in HP’s Indigo 200K digital printing press, claiming to save on time and setup costs for short-run, customizable collections of its branded tissue paper and gift wrap for luxury applications.
According to JUNG, the HP Indigo 200K is the ‘most modern’ roll-to-roll digital printing machine. It can reportedly print up to seven colours in ‘vibrant’ colour quality with ‘sharp’ detail and a ‘premium’ finish.
“Digital printing guarantees maximum colour brilliance and perfect print quality that presents your brand in the best possible light,” the company says on its website.
Existing flexographic and screen printing techniques are combined with digital print in hopes of creating ‘more complex and refined’ packaging designs with ‘unique and sophisticated’ combinations of textures, finishes, and layers.
“This new flexibility enables us to develop customised and exclusive packaging solutions that optimally emphasise the character of your brand,” JUNG explains.
Apparently, the press supports faster lead times – enabling a quick response to new product launches and market trends – and spares customers from the commitment of large production volumes.
Since no printing plates are required in the process, production times and lead costs are said to decrease.
JUNG has applied the technology to personalized and seasonal collections of its branded gift wrap and tissue paper products. It offers digitally printed rolls and sheets featuring one- or two-sided print, as well as a logo without a background colour.
The HP Indigo 200K digital press made its debut at Labelexpo Europe 2023 after the completion of its data phase. There it highlighted its on-demand delivery of variable designs, its lack of minimum orders, and its ‘minimal’ waste processes.
In the same year, Canon released its imagePROGRAF TC-20M full-colour, large format desktop printer for customized wrapping paper, among other applications. This printer was designed to use less than 26W during operation and 2.4W during standby.
Since then, HP’s Eli Mahal joined us on an episode of the Packaging Europe podcast to discuss the rise of digital print amidst increasing speed and productivity, how this applies to the push for sustainability in the packaging industry, and the challenges in store for future innovation in the next few years.
