Pret A Manger can now secure and deliver eight granola pots with a bespoke, FSC-certified insert from Sabert Corporation Europe – a solution designed to be ‘simple and cost effective’ to use.
“We wanted to improve the customer experience for our breakfast granola pots,” explains Simon Oxley, global head of Packaging at Pret A Manger. “We’ve worked with Sabert for many years, and they were quick to engineer a solution which improved the offering while still using the original packaging format.
“Sustainability is important to Pret, so we’re also delighted that the entire packaging solution is fully recyclable and made from Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified paperboard.”
“The insert is the perfect solution while also being simple to use and cost-effective,” continues Jack Richardson, senior national account manager at Sabert Corporation Europe. “It is also conveniently packed in cases of 50pcs to maximize storage space in store.
“The key outcome is a positive impact on Pret delivery sales during the breakfast period and increased usage of the delivery box which we were already supplying.”
Alex Noake, senior vice president and managing director of Sabert Corporation Europe, elaborates on Sabert’s “award-winning products and bespoke packaging solutions”, which “continue to offer our clients the best guarantees in terms of quality, safety and service – making Sabert the ‘go to’ for every foodservice operator’s sustainable 2Go foodservice packaging solutions.”
Unveiled in May 2023, the Snap2Go range is described as “a fully recyclable solution for chilled meals and food-to-go outlets” – it consists of a FSC-certified paperboard base and an anti-fog, high-visibility clip lid made from post-consumer PET bottle flake.
Sabert went on to reveal its Tray2Go range, “a fully recyclable packaging solution for sushi, other chilled food-to-go, confectionery, and bakery products”. It comprises an FSC-certified, double-wall tray with a recessed base and feet – featuring an inner varnish made of PE and a GR coating on one side – and a high-clarity click-lock lid made of 50% rPET.
“Reinventing food packaging to nourish and protect our world – ‘We make food look great‘ – has evolved to become more than a tagline,” Noake adds.
“With our award-winning products and bespoke packaging solutions, we continue to offer our clients the best guarantees in terms of quality, safety and service – making Sabert the ‘go to’ for every foodservice operator’s sustainable 2Go foodservice packaging solutions.”
In another insert solution, BOTTA EcoPackaging is using FSC-certified soft paper pads to protect watches, jewellery, and other premium products in transit. Intended as a replacement for traditional foam inserts, the packaging can also be used as a holder to display the product in a retail setting, and is recyclable at end-of-life.
Another food packaging solution, this one a self-separating plastic pot and cardboard wrap from Greiner Packaging, has been embraced by Greggs, M&S, Waitrose, and other retailers and eateries for their own-brand instant porridge products. The pack’s components are intended to separate during the disposal process without manual consumer intervention, in turn unlocking a recyclability rate of up to 98% at end-of-life.
