NORMA grocery stores in Germany, France, the Czech Republic and Austria are due to package select private label products in Koehler Paper’s recyclable heat-sealable packaging, said to conform with Cepi’s recyclability standards.

Koehler’s NexPlus Advanced is said to be grease-resistant and feature an oxygen and oil barrier. The company says the research and development team from Koehler Innovation & Technology worked with experts from Koehler Paper to develop the NexFlex product range of recyclable flexible paper packaging, aiming to replace plastic in packaging by using barrier paper wherever possible.

The range includes standard coated and uncoated paper used in laminates for pouches, sachets and other applications, designed for packaging a wide range of food and non-food products. Koehler adds that the NexFlex range also has paper coated on one side with good dimensional stability and high smoothness (Koehler NexCoat), as well as uncoated paper with a natural appearance (Koehler NexPure).

Earlier this year, Koehler Paper collaborated with Wimbée to develop the ‘first’ cardboard cap with a paper coating to top aerosol cans; among its first applications are Héritage’s O’Cedar furniture care products. Apparently, NexCoat Smart’s high fold-crack resistance provides ‘excellent’ laminating, shaping, and printing properties on the cardboard’s surface and reduces its environmental impact.

In similar news, Lecta recently introduced its Creaset GP PFAS-Free FP paper, a high-performance, one-side coated gloss paper for flexible packaging applications, said to combine premium grease resistance with ‘excellent’ flexibility and printability. The company adds that by removing PFAS from the formulation, it hopes to help its partners respond proactively to emerging regulations and consumer preferences.
