Mondi has launched its Ad/Vantage Smooth Brown Semi Extensible kraft paper, designed for industrial and consumer packaging applications and aiming to enable reliable protection and efficient converting while ensuring ‘excellent’ printing and coating performance.
Said to combine ‘exceptional strength, extensibility and high puncture resistance’, the new paper has been developed as a high-performance base paper for coated and heat sealable packaging solutions. Mondi says its smooth surface delivers ‘superior printability’ compared to natural brown papers with rougher surface textures.
Apparently, the paper is particularly suitable for form-fill-and-seal (FFS) packaging used for sharp-edged or heavy items such as toys and dry food, spare parts and building materials, and other packaging solutions. Made from responsibly sourced fresh fibres (with PEFC or FSC1 chain of custody certification optionally available), Mondi says the Ad/Vantage Smooth Brown Semi Extensible is recyclable as a paper substrate in EU paper recycling streams, verified using the CEPI test method.
The solution is also designed to run on existing converting and filling lines, supporting process efficiency and consistent performance. Based on these characteristics, Mondi seeks to offer converters a recyclable and ‘technically advanced’ reel material that can be used for a wide range of packaging solutions.
Last month the company revealed its re/cycle PaperPlus Bag Advanced paper bag for humidity-sensitive powders, thought to contain 60% less plastic than conventional solutions, aiming to streamline recyclability without impacting barrier performance. Developed in collaboration with UZIN, its thin, high-performance 20 µm film is designed to protect humidity-sensitive products against moisture, even in demanding conditions.
Lecta recently announced the expansion of its Metalvac range with the Metalvac Seal Oxygen Barrier, a metallized barrier paper aiming to meet industry demands for technical performance, industrial efficiency and sustainability. The papers are said to ensure efficiency throughout the production process, and the low aluminium content (0.08 gsm) ensures high barrier performance without compromising the material’s recyclability within the standard paper recycling stream.
