Mondi’s re/cycle PaperPlus Bag Advanced paper bag for humidity-sensitive powders is thought to contain 60% less plastic than conventional solutions, thus streamlining recyclability without impacting barrier performance.
The bag was developed in collaboration with UZIN to package its fast-drying flooring solution. Its thin, high-performance 20 µm film is designed to protect humidity-sensitive products against moisture, even in demanding conditions, while lowering plastic consumption in the building and construction industry.
According to Mondi’s in-house, life cycle-based Product Impact Assessment (PIA) tool, the re/cycle PaperPlus Bag Advanced uses 60% less plastic than conventional bags with a 50µm film, as well as having a lower carbon footprint. At the same time, it is not thought to compromise on product protection.
The bag has been tested and confirmed as recyclable according to the CEPI test method and 4Evergreen evaluation protocol.
Mondi also emphasizes its compatibility with existing filling and sealing lines, which is hoped to help customers adopt the solution quickly without making changes to their production equipment.
“PaperPlus Bag Advanced is a future-ready alternative for customers seeking to reduce plastic and meet performance demands without compromising on efficiency,” says Max Melzer, head of External Sales Industrial Bags. “At Mondi, we are ready to support our customers, considering the environmental impacts of our products at each stage of the value chain.
“Following our own MAP2030 goals, we are working hard to offer solutions that contribute to a circular economy while being fully tailored to our customers’ needs.”
Previously, Mondi co-founded Paper Sacks Go Circular Spain, a twelve-company alliance focused on improving the circularity of used paper bags in the Spanish construction industry. Hosted by Eurosac and CEPI Eurokraft, the alliance plans to find synergies between construction and demolition waste streams to increase volumes and pursue economies of scale, starting with paper bags for construction materials.
It also unveiled its IntegoBag, an alternative to free film paper bags used in the construction industry; this paper bag is designed to lower plastic consumption by 50% and optimize the shelf life of building materials with its fit-for-purpose moisture barrier.
