Körber ALVA

Körber has announced two new solutions - the ALVA fully automatic inspection machine designed for High Mix Low Volume (HMLV) applications and the SPE6-P2 Stickpack Line for integrated line concepts – aiming to address challenges faced by pharmaceutical manufacturers.

Unveiled at interpack 2026, the solutions are designed to address challenges such as increasing product diversity, smaller batch sizes and high-quality requirements. Körber says the ALVA automatic inspection machine enables reliable inspection of small batches with frequent product and format changes such as syringes, vials and cartridges, without compromising quality or efficiency.

ALVA is said to have fast changeovers, automated processes and a compact design, aiming to help pharmaceutical manufacturers reduce downtime, accelerate release processes and ensure consistently high inspection quality even for smaller production volumes. Apparently, the solution particularly benefits applications with high product variability and short changeover cycles such as clinical trials, personalized therapies, Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products (ATMPs) and Contract Development and Manufacturing Organizations (CDMOs).

Körber states that the new SPE6-P2 Stickpack Line is suitable for pharmaceutical applications and dietary supplements, directly connecting the SPE6 Stickpack machine with the P2 cartoner, creating a continuous process from primary to secondary packaging. It can handle a range of product types from powders and granules to liquid or temperature-sensitive media, and is designed for connectivity, traceability and future production requirements.

In related news, Mettler-Toledo Product Inspection has just revealed its X56 DXD+ dual energy photon-counting x-ray system with AI capabilities, designed for packaged applications and aiming to allow manufacturers to inspect products with enhanced contamination detection capabilities. The company says it provides ‘premium’ product safety in formats such as pet food, crisps or potatoes.

Earlier this year, Syntegon launched its AIM9 inspection platform, said to combine visual inspection and leak detection with outputs of up to 600 vials per minute, aiming to help pharmaceutical manufacturers and CMOs achieve the ‘highest’ inspection and product quality. The company adds that the platform has fully integrated Container Closure Integrity Testing (CCIT), offering headspace gas analysis, high‑voltage leak detection or both without the need for additional equipment.
