KIND Snacks has begun piloting a kerbside recyclable paper wrapper at select Whole Foods Market stores in the United States, utilizing a How2Recycle pre-qualified paper type.
The KIND paper wrapper will be available at Whole Foods Market stores across Connecticut, New Jersey, New York, Texas, southern California and select stores in Louisiana, Arizona and Nevada from May 1st - October 1st for KIND’s Dark Chocolate Nuts & Sea Salt single bars.
KIND says the new wrapper builds on its first paper wrapper pilot in 2023, which was an e-commerce trial available exclusively on the company’s website. It adds that consumer feedback and performance insights such as preliminary shelf life, transit and machinability data were integrated into the research and development of the new design.
KIND partnered with Printpack to develop the latest version. “Developing a recyclable paper wrapper in less than two years demonstrates remarkable progress in sustainable packaging innovation,” says Printpack’s chief strategy officer David Love. “This breakthrough sets a new standard for sustainable solutions in the food packaging industry and shows what’s possible when companies prioritize environmental stewardship.”
In related news, TIPA has launched a home compostable high-barrier film for laminated savoury snack and crisp packaging, aiming to offer enhanced functionality and durability. The barrier properties apparently eliminate the need for an additional sealing layer, making it efficient for converting and suitable for various applications.
Korozo Group recently partnered with Zertus UK & Ireland to create recyclable stand up pouches designed to introduce Baileys’ new Chocolate Nut Mix snack range to retail shelves. As well as a partial surface matte lacquer, Korozo’s KoroRCY film was laminated to a PE layer with EVOH component to achieve the required barrier properties without compromising the pouch’s recyclability.
