ProAmpac’s new high-barrier packaging platform is set to help dry food brands transition from multilayer structures to recyclable, fibre-based alternatives.
The ProActive Recyclable RP-2000 High Barrier Series comprises kerbside recyclable, fibre-based packaging with ‘strong’ oxygen and moisture barriers. It is intended to replace traditional, non-recyclable barrier structures like paper/foil, paper/metallized PET (METPET), and certain film laminations.
The lineup is available in different pouch formats and rollstock. It is designed for flexibility across common packaging styles, flex-crack resistance through durable construction, and consistent barrier properties through handling and folding.
Additionally, the materials aim for high-quality printing capabilities on natural kraft, bleached paper, and clay-coated paper.
ProAmpac recommends the ProActive Recyclable RP-2000 High Barrier Series for sensitive dry food products like snacks, dry fruits, nuts, granola, oatmeal, cereal, and spices.
“RP-2000 High Barrier platform was created to give brands a drop-in kerbside recyclable solution with minimum adjustment on filling lines and has successfully trialled on a super high-speed HFFS line running up to 900 packs per minute,” says Adam Edinger, global innovation engineer for ProAmpac. “It delivers dependable performance in a fibre-based format that aligns with today’s expectations.”
Hesam Tabatabaei, chief technology officer at ProAmpac, adds: “Supporting the growing Fiberization of Packaging movement, and as adoption of fibre-based structures accelerates, it is critical that ProAmpac continues to expand the functional performance envelope of paper-based materials.
“These technologies enable brands to transition to kerbside recyclable packaging while maintaining required barrier properties, package integrity, and filling-line efficiency.
Last year, ProAmpac revealed another platform: its polyolefin-based ProActive Recycle-Ready lineup, intended for for high-speed chunk cheese applications. The platform is said to offer ‘exceptional’ performance without compromising shelf life.
In similar news, Gualapack Ukraine has introduced flat-bottom and side gusset pouch formats to its portfolio. The packaging has been developed to maintain an optimal shape and stand upright, regardless of its content level.
