ProAmpac has announced the commercial launch of its ProActive Recycle-Ready polyolefin-based platform, developed for high-speed chunk cheese applications and said to offer ‘exceptional’ performance without compromising shelf life.

The company says the new films are designed to withstand the demanding conditions of chunk cheese production and provide ‘excellent’ clarity for the product and packaging on retail shelves. It also offers robust puncture resistance and the ability to withstand high temperatures during the high-speed filling process.

ProAmpac adds that the advanced sealing technology delivers a low seal initiation temperature and ‘exceptional’ seal through properties, allowing for the mitigation of leak risks on high-speed filling lines. The platform is designed for compatibility with polyethylene (PE) recycling streams and can incorporate post-consumer recycled (PCR) material.

“These specialized films deliver outstanding abrasion resistance and have successfully passed rigorous transportation testing, ensuring dependable product protection from production through distribution,” said Ebrahim Jalali Dil, global senior innovation at ProAmpac. “With a range of barrier options tailored to different cheese formats and moisture levels, this platform offers the versatility and performance that dairy brands need to maintain freshness and shelf appeal.”

In related news, Marks & Spencer, Graphic Packaging International, and 2 Sisters Food Group began trialling a recyclable paper fibre tray for the M&S Fiery Chicken Tikka Masala product in May, suitable for both ovens and microwaves. The FSC-certified tray is made of cardboard created with renewable paper fibres and can be recycled at home in the paper recycling stream.

More recently, Sonoco partnered with Lorenz Snack-World to provide a rigid paper can for its Crunchips Stackers snacks, designed to be easier to recycle while ensuring the quality and durability consumers expect. Sonoco says that unlike other conventional snack cans, the new can contains no aluminium foil in the inner liner and no metal base.
