RATTPACK’s murFLEX PP Clip Foil is a recyclable, multilayer high-barrier film made entirely from polypropylene, intended for retort applications such as flow packs, stand-up pouches, and lidding films.

Traditionally, clip foils are based on complex multi-material laminates such as OPP, CPP, OPA, and aluminium, and bonded with solvent-based adhesives. This can cause difficulties with recyclability and fall short of sustainability and regulatory requirements.

murFLEX PP Clip Foil serves as a mono-PP alternative. Manufactured in line with current design-for-recycling principles, the solution is compatible with existing recycling streams, featuring a newly developed transparent layer to uphold ‘excellent’ high-barrier performance while avoiding aluminium.

Using a solvent-free lamination process is hoped to ensure high resistance during sterilization and reduce environmental impact. ISCC-certified options are also available, including post-consumer recycled content designed to be suitable for food contact.

Furthermore, the film is said to use less material and extend product shelf life. It is set to optimize logistics and storage efficiency, and to facilitate easy product dispensing with minimal residue.

It also offers retort capability up to 130°C, high flexibility, and ‘excellent’ sealing properties. As such, it is suitable for use in stand-up pouches, flow packs, lidding films, coffee capsules, and industrial bag applications.

The manufacturing process is powered by green electricity and supported by waste heat utilization, according to RATTPACK; this is hoped to boost energy efficiency while lowering the overall carbon footprint.

Apparently, murFLEX PP Clip Foil is ‘among the first’ multilayer high-barrier films to be manufactured entirely from polypropylene. RATTPACK expects the film to align with the incoming requirements of the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation.

It is recommended for use across multiple applications and industries. These include cosmetics, industrial products like adhesives and lubricants – and various food products, including spreads, pâtés, processed meats, and pet food.

murFLEX PP Clip Foil forms part of RATTPACK’s wider murFLEX portfolio, which consists of recyclable multilayer structures based on mono-PE, PO, or PP. Each is designed for streamlined material separation after use, with each component set to be recycled as valuable secondary raw materials.

In other news, SÜDPACK has unveiled its SKINPro and Multifol Extreme vacuum and Modified Atmosphere Packaging film solutions for perishable fish products. This solution is reportedly around 30% lighter than conventional PA/PE structures while reducing conventional film thickness by around 50 µm.

Meanwhile, ProAmpac presents a high-barrier packaging platform intended to help dry food brands transition from multilayer structures to recyclable, fibre-based alternatives. It comprises kerbside recyclable, fibre-based packaging with ‘strong’ oxygen and moisture barriers.
