Greiner Packaging and Air Up’s leak-proof, refillable Click Bottle uses scent-based pods to add flavour to plain water without sugar, additives or calories. It is hoped to promote healthy hydration and complement active lifestyles.

The body of the bottle is made from Eastman’s copolyester plastic, Tritan, which is described as a robust, taste-neutral, and BPA-free material. It is manufactured with stretch blow moulding technology for a ‘lightweight yet stable’ product with ‘precise’ detailing, while its compact shape is intended for stress-free transportation.

Every other component of the Click Bottle is injection moulded, including the HDPE drinking straw. The adapter and lid are made from polypropylene and designed for durability and strength.

Meanwhile, the bottle’s EasyOpen mechanism allows users to open the securely integrated lid with the push of a polyamide button; this feature is designed to withstand stress in long-term use. The lid stays attached to the bottle for easy and secure handling, with the inclusion of leak-proof features set to prevent spillage.

Since 2023, the production of Air Up’s Tritan drinking bottles has taken place entirely in Austria. Greiner Packaging now manufactures most of its product components, only excluding its mouthpiece and handle tab.

The Click Bottle was originally designed as a ‘Mini Sipper’ for younger consumers, but it has reportedly gained traction with adult consumers and is now available in a variety of colours.

“With the Click Bottle, we are fulfilling our mission to create innovative and sustainable drinking solutions for a conscious, active lifestyle,” says Lena Jüngst, co-founder of Air Up. “In close collaboration with Greiner Packaging, we have developed a bottle that stands out through smart functionality, premium design, and outstanding quality, perfectly suited to the needs of a modern, on-the-go lifestyle.”

“The Click Bottle shows how much innovation and passion go into the collaboration between Greiner Packaging and Air Up,” adds Patrick Fusz, sales manager at Greiner Packaging. “Together we have created a bottle that is not only practical but also stylish and smart.”

Last year, Berry Global and Aquafigure teamed up to develop a line of reusable water bottles to encourage young consumers to drink more water. Users can update the bottle’s design with interchangeable 3D artwork cards depicting sports stars, children’s characters, and more – thus keeping up with changing trends and tastes without wasting entire containers.

Since then, Bottle Up has upscaled a reusable water bottle made from sugar cane. Intended as a renewable and recyclable alternative to single-use plastic bottles, the container is dishwasher-safe and comes in different colours to suit consumer tastes.

A previous edition of the Brief also explored the potential and pitfalls of reusable bottles in the tourism industry, ranging from The Travel Foundation’s pilot project at hotels in Cyprus to EcoDrop’s refillable bottle offerings at Victoria Falls.
