Duni Group has announced it is implementing polypropylene (PP) mono-material solutions across its Duniform brand’s takeaway, ready meal and catering lines, aiming to make them more compatible with existing recycling systems.
The new solutions are said to reduce the use of additives and fillers and are part of the Group’s long-term goal to develop packaging designed for recycling which meets increasing regulatory requirements, such as the EU’s upcoming Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR).
Duni Group states that the transition to mono-material products retains the same performance and areas of use and does not require any changes to product design, functionality or article numbers for customers. Following long-term development, the new solutions have been implemented across all new production and are gradually being rolled out to customers.
In related news, Walki and Dow’ recently revealed a mono-material MDO-PE pouch with a matte finish, expected to unlock recyclability and high performance for frozen food packaging in compliance with the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR). Potential applications include dry food products like cereals, as well as fresh food in modified atmosphere packaging applications.
This month Klöckner Pentaplast (KP) has introduced a new mono-material tray range for fresh fruit as part of its KP Infinity portfolio, said to be fully recyclable, lightweight and durable. KP adds that the trays offer a lower carbon footprint and feature consumer-facing recycling messaging designed to simplify disposal.
