Klöckner Pentaplast (KP) has introduced a new mono-material tray range for fresh fruit as part of its KP Infinity portfolio, said to be fully recyclable, lightweight and durable.
Following on from the Infinity portfolio’s food-to-go applications, the new range is made from expanded polypropylene (EPP) and targets the fresh fruit market, aiming to enhance product presentation while supporting efficient handling, transportation and storage with its stackable format.
The trays also feature consumer-facing recycling messaging, designed to simplify disposal and support participation in recycling. KP says the Infinity fruit trays offer a lower carbon footprint and require less water and energy to manufacture compared to alternative packaging materials.
The company adds that the new trays can be combined with kp FlexiStretch overwrap or kp FlexiFlow films for a complete packaging solution, said to provide ‘excellent’ product presentation and protection while helping to maintain product quality from packing to shelf.
Austin Schwarz, sales director for UK & Ireland at KP Food Packaging, commented: “The new fruit tray range brings together the durability, presentation and recyclability customers are looking for in a format specifically designed for whole fruit, such as apples and pears. Combined with kp FlexiStretch overwrap or our kp FlexiFlow films, customers can source a complete packaging solution from one supplier, benefiting from streamlined procurement, technical expertise and consistent packaging performance across the supply chain.”
In April KP unveiled its KP Evolve Fish Boards, designed specifically for vacuum skin packaging for processed fish and able to contain up to 100% recycled content. The company says the design features its KP Zapora advanced retention-chamber geometry which replaces the need for absorbent pads and adhesives.
The previous month Ravenwood Packaging teamed up with Troya Alimentos to introduce Mexico’s ‘first’ linerless, tray-based packaging for fresh produce, replacing plastic nets and traditional labels. The new packaging aims to reduce waste and align with Mexico’s evolving regulations on single-use plastics.
