Coveris has revealed its MonoFlexFibre Pure Twist paper alternative for confectionery packaging, designed to replace alternatives commonly used for twist-wrapped confectionery products including lollipops and hard candy, as well as heat-seal flow-wrapped bars and sticks.
Developed to meet 95/5 industry paper recyclability guidelines, the company says the lightweight material maintains reliable product protection and efficiency on high-speed packing lines. The new solution consists of a single layer of lightweight functional paper and offers reliable sealing as primary packaging for single or double twist wrapped confectionery.
The solution is also said to offer ‘excellent’ printability for rotogravure, flexo and digital printing. Coveris adds that transitioning to this paper structure requires no major changes to existing machinery and runs efficiently on high speed and standard FFS packing lines.
The MonoFlexFibre Pure Twist also aims to support upcoming recycling requirements for packaging waste such as the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation, which requires that by 2030, all packaging placed on the market will need to be recyclable, with performance-based recyclability thresholds in place.
Last year Coveris helped Pladis Global pack its confectionery in pre-made block bottom bags made from fully recyclable paper – replacing multi-material, hard-to-recycle alternatives without sacrificing their visual appeal. Intended as secondary packaging for confectionery products, Coveris’ paper-based replacements were reportedly developed to align with CEFLEX’s circular design guidelines.
More recently, Theegarten-Pactec announced its FPC6 flow-wrapping machine for manufacturers of foods including chocolate, confectionery and protein bars, said to combine ‘outstanding’ flexibility with advanced user-friendliness, digital networking and maximum process reliability. With the new machine, the company is also implementing an automated system from a single source, which transfers the flow packs directly to the BLM high-performance cartoner developed in-house.
