BioPak and Australian ice-cream company Everest have teamed up on a nationwide rollout of FSC-certified paper ice cream cups, aiming to deliver the same ‘premium quality and craftsmanship’ with a reduced environmental footprint.
According to the companies, the new ice cream cups are made from renewable FSC paper and maintain the same integrity and functionality as plastic. The 110ml serve is rolling out across national airlines, convenience stores and QSR outlets this month.
The partners are also introducing an FSC-certified birchwood spoon, designed by BioPak to fit within Everest’s dixie-style serve. The spoon-in-lid solution is said to eliminate the need for individual plastic spoons, delivering ‘sustainable convenience’ for foodservice partners.
In similar news, last summer Huhtamaki unveiled its ice cream cups made from ‘responsibly sourced’ certified paperboard, designed to be home and industrially compostable and recyclable. The cups also feature a bio-based material coating, as part of the company’s shift from fossil-based to bio-based plastics.
At the end of 2025, Lecta expanded its range of metallized papers with Metalvac Ice Cream, a paper said to meet the current technical performance, industrial efficiency and sustainability requirements in the frozen food sector. Lecta states the paper is recyclable within the paper and cardboard recycling stream, in accordance with CEPI recyclability standards.
