Amcor Lift Off

Amcor has launched its Lift-Off Winter 2025/26 Challenge inviting start-ups worldwide to collaborate on sustainable packaging solutions, focusing on research and development priorities for flexible and paper-based packaging.

Previous Amcor Lift-Off challenges have led to partnerships and investments with companies in areas such as artificial intelligence-powered waste analytics, reusable packaging and bio-based materials. This year, start-ups are encouraged to submit solutions that address one of three key areas: home-compostable adhesives, high-performance compostable oxygen transmission rate (OTR) barriers and nature-based barrier additives for film formulation.

Amcor gives the examples of certified home-compostable adhesives for flexible packaging providing robust bond strength, regulatory compliance and compatibility with paper and compostable substrates; solutions delivering ‘outstanding’ OTR protection for paper packaging suitable for application via dispersion coating and meeting stringent sustainability and regulatory standards; and compostable additives that significantly enhance oxygen, moisture and grease resistance in packaging films, preferably derived from natural products and scalable for commercial use.

The Amcor Lift-Off Winter 2025/26 challenge will proceed in three phases – applications, open online until December 12th, 2025 (23:59 CET), screening and feedback until Dec. 19th 2025, and (virtual) pitching day on January 13th 2026.

The company adds that incorporated companies with a Technology Readiness Level (TRL) above five are encouraged to apply, regardless of prior funding history. Selected start-ups will be invited to present their technologies to Amcor’s R&D team, for the chance to secure opportunities for joint development and potential investment of up to $500,000.

The company recently unveiled its proprietary APET-based AmSecure thermoformed trays and rollstock, a new part of its HealthCare portfolio. Amcor claims that the switch to APET maintains clarity, durability and sterilization compatibility, while offering a cost-effective and more sustainable alternative compared to PETG.

In the flexible packaging space, Quadpack launched its Serenity Tube for applying eye cream and other skincare treatments, with a flexible applicator and the option to incorporate up to 100% recycled content in the cap and 50% in the sleeve. All components can be decorated to match a brand’s identity.
