Alfilpack has revealed its mono-material solution designed for the logistics and distribution of stationary bikes weighing around 55 kg, said to ‘significantly reduce’ the packaging breakage rate.
The company states its Spinning Bike Packaging has ISTA 3L certification which guarantees its ability to prevent damage to the product throughout distribution, and that the packaging complies with resource optimization through sustainable design.
Alfilpack says the solution includes a lid, a base positioner that fixes the main bike body in place and cushions impacts; a wheel-centering positioner that immobilizes the wheel and allows for the correct positioning of other elements of the bicycle, preventing movement during transport; a handlebar box; and a tray to protect and prevent shifting of the bike’s main body during transport.
It also features a small tray with a fastening function for accessories and a lateral sleeve that forms the structure of the packaging and ensures product protection and stability, along with a fastening element that ensures a firm connection between the bottom, sleeve, and lid of the packaging.
The new packaging aims to address challenges such as high rates of internal component breakage during transport, the use of multiple materials such as foam, cardboard and strapping, and long assembly time due to multiple packaging parts.
Alfilpack adds that the Spinning Bike Packaging seeks to deliver optimization through improved internal arrangement and securement of components to reduce internal damage, a simple handling process which only requires one person and facilitate recycling through its mono-material design.
In related news, Item Products unveiled its new Eco-Range of paper-based, fully recyclable packaging components said to deliver the strength, performance and aesthetic appeal of traditional plastic parts while remaining cost-effective. The Eco-Lock component is said to be ideal for B2B and heavy-duty transit packaging, including bike delivery and high-value shipments, where secure closure and recyclability are vital.
The following month, Mondi has teamed up with bicycle manufacturer Polana Bikes to develop a paper-based reusable packaging system, featuring Mondi’s pre-made paper ProtectorBAG for bikes and their components. The packaging aims to be intuitive to assemble, reduce plastic use and enhance logistics and customer experience.
