Mondi and Ovoko

Mondi reports it has achieved a 42% reduction in unit packaging costs with its protective packaging for online marketplace Ovoko’s car bumpers.

The company partnered with Ovoko to create packaging for its e-commerce supply chain, designed to be simple to assemble, cost-effective and improve product protection. Mondi says it adapted a heavy-duty solution from its automotive portfolio and shaped the packaging to the bumper’s geometry.

The solution was successfully tested under real-life conditions and was approved within two weeks. The resulting packaging apparently eliminates empty space and reduces material use, achieving a 42% reduction in unit packaging costs and improved operational efficiency.

“Sometimes the best solution is the simplest one. By adapting a proven packaging concept, we were able to quickly deliver a reliable and cost-efficient corrugated packaging solution that met Ovoko’s needs,” adds Dmitrijus Curkinas, regional sales manager at Mondi Poland.

Last month Mondi claimed to have delivered a 10% reduction in logistics and production costs for Turkish technology company Argesim Teknoloji, by developing a customized corrugated packaging solution for its sensor-based products. The re-designed packaging removed the need for foam materials in response to overseas customer preferences.

In other protective packaging news, Alfilpack revealed its mono-material solution in March, designed for the logistics and distribution of stationary bikes weighing around 55 kg. Said to ‘significantly reduce’ the packaging breakage rate, the solution aims to address challenges such as the use of multiple materials and long assembly times due to multiple packaging parts.
