In this Spotlight, YUTO discusses their innovative solutions that won 12 awards across the Red Dot Design Award, the iF Design Award and the WorldStar Awards.

Driven by the global sustainability trend, the EU PPWR mandates packaging reduction, recyclable design, and restrictions on single-use packaging. Sustainable packaging has evolved from a competitive advantage into a mandatory market entry requirement. As a global leader in superior packaging solutions, YUTO has once again demonstrated its design excellence by winning 12 awards across 3 of the world’s most prestigious design competitions in 2026—the Red Dot Design Award, the iF Design Award, and the WorldStar Awards. Nine innovative packaging projects were recognized, reflecting YUTO’s commitment to combining creativity, functionality, and sustainability.

Red Dot: Best of the Best — The Highest Honour

Leading this year’s achievements, the Ice Cream Cone-Shaped Yarn Packaging received the coveted Red Dot: Best of the Best, the highest distinction in the Red Dot program.

Inspired by the shape of a waffle cone, the packaging is formed from a single sheet of paper. The hole on the bottom allows smooth yarn dispensing, while the cone top secures the yarn and serves as a needle holder. The open structure transforms the product into an engaging display, delivering both functionality and visual appeal.

iF & WorldStar Winners — Engineering with Purpose

Three projects earned both the iF Design Award and the WorldStar Award:

Creative Mouse Packaging — A glue-free, single-piece structure with die-cut inserts that adapt to different mouse sizes.

Artisanal Paper-Based Red Wine Packaging — A single corrugated paper folded into a diamond-shaped structure that combines strength with elegant product presentation.

Honeycomb Lifting LED Light Box — A fully biodegradable design that uses honeycomb paper to elevate the product during unboxing and transform the package into a display stand.

These designs showcase YUTO’s expertise in structural innovation, material efficiency, and sustainable packaging engineering.

Additional iF Design Award Honorees

Four additional projects received the iF Design Award:

ZERO-Glue Express Box — A fully recyclable shipping box featuring a patented locking structure that eliminates the need for tape.

Xingyuntuo Tea Packaging — A culturally inspired design that transforms tea packaging into an interactive chess-themed experience.

Mortise and Tenon Toolbox — Inspired by traditional Chinese mortise and tenon, this toolbox is constructed from a single sheet of paper without nails or adhesives.

Sustainable Laptop Packaging — A modular design that can be repurposed as a desktop organizer after use.

Red Dot Design Award — Biomimicry Meets Packaging

The Bionic Open-Ear Headphone Packaging received a Red Dot Design Award for its biomimetic design concept.

Inspired by the natural contours of the human ear, the packaging provides direct product protection while creating a memorable unboxing experience. The design reflects YUTO’s exploration of nature-inspired solutions that combine aesthetics with functionality.

A Design Philosophy Rooted in Sustainability

From biomimicry and traditional craftsmanship to innovative packaging structure, all of YUTO’s award-winning projects share a common vision: creating packaging that respects both the product and the planet.

Built around recyclable, biodegradable, or single-paper structures, these designs demonstrate how thoughtful packaging can enhance user experience while reducing environmental impact. Through continuous innovation, YUTO remains committed to helping global brands create packaging solutions that are both distinctive and sustainable.
