Wipak has announced it will be presenting its FlexPod alternative cup for dairy products, aiming to eliminate the need for consumers to separate components for sorting and recycling, and its other GreenChoice solutions at this year’s Fachpack 2024 in Nuremberg from 24th-26th September.
Said to be suitable for dairy products such as yogurt, the company will be showcasing the solution, designed with over 95% polyethylene (PE), at Fachpack’s Innovation Box Forum. Wipak says FlexPod offers convenience and optimization for recycling due to its reduced packaging weight, easy handling and laser perforation for simple opening.
Wipak also states that its UK packaging solution for the SMUG grated cheese has been shortlisted for the UK Packaging Awards. The 160g easy-open mono-material doypack reportedly reduces the carbon footprint by 20% compared to typical market standards for grated cheese.
The packaging incorporates a gas barrier in an effort to ensure extended shelf life and preserve the product’s quality. The solution’s duplex structure is said to eliminate unnecessary plastic from the supply chain and make it a more ‘sustainable’ solution against market standards. The pack can be resealed for product freshness using a t- zipper and is apparently fully recyclable through the UK’s OPRL’s return-to-store scheme.
Wipak will be showcasing its GreenChoice solutions at Fachpack, which are designed to integrate into existing packaging lines and are said to require no major machinery investment. This aims to allow customers to transition packaging smoothly and efficiently, without disruptions to their operations.
Through strategic collaboration with Digimarc Corporation, Wipak claims to possess ‘the market’s leading expertise’ in connecting physical and digital assets, with the technology said to be highly effective in deterring counterfeiting, promoting circularity, enhancing recyclability, and minimizing plastic waste. Wipak states it is working towards the future of full digitalization regarding documentation along all stages of the value chain, and its customers can now validate their recyclability rates at scale, ensuring environmental sustainability and embracing digitalization opportunities.
Wipak says it has also collaborated with partners including HolyGrail 2.0, R-Cycle and Ceflex on initiatives towards a circular economy. Wipak’s booth at Fachpack 2024 will be located in Hall 4, Booth Number 4-322.
In June, Wipak participated in Digimarc’s Center of Expertise programme, designed to give companies in packaging, print and pre-media companies access to digital watermarking for integration into digital identification and authentication solutions. Aiming to crack down on counterfeiting, enhance circularity, improve recyclability, and minimize plastic waste, it is expected to help companies align with the upcoming Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation.
Also exhibiting at Fachpack is Mondi, which is due to showcase the ‘world’s first’ mono-material vacuum packaging solution designed for coffee producer Paulig among its range of paper, plastic, and combined material solutions. Its FunctionalBarrier Paper range of fibre-based packaging – designed to be recycled in existing European paper waste streams – will also be on show.
