Mondi will showcase the ‘world’s first’ mono-material vacuum packaging solution designed for coffee producer Paulig among its range of paper, plastic, and combined material solutions at FACHPACK 2024.
Other products on display will include FlexiBag Reinforced, a PE-based, mono-material packaging solution with a customizable percentage of post-consumer recycled content. Said to be recyclable, it is targeted at the pet food industry.
Its FunctionalBarrier Paper range of fibre-based packaging – designed to be recycled in existing European paper waste streams – will also be on show. It is thought to be compatible with a range of industrial and FMCG end markets.
Furthermore, the Advantage Smooth Brown Semi Extensible grade of smooth-finished, brown kraft paper claims to offer high puncture resistance and the option to coat it for heat-sealing applications. The solution is recommended for form fill and seal (FFS) processes to package construction parts, dry food, and other industrial and consumer products.
Additionally, EcoWicketBag, a paper-based packaging solution made of ‘extremely durable’ kraft paper, will be available to view. Mondi has designed the material to withstand the filling process and protect its contents during transport, all without compromising its recyclability.
Mondi’s booth at Stand 204 in Hall 4 will host CELAB Europe, a collaborative initiative targeting circularity for self adhesive labels’ release liners via innovative recycling solutions and collaboration. The booth will be positioned next to the PACKBOX stage, where packaging experts will hold discussions.
“To achieve our ambitious MAP2030 sustainability targets, we are fully committed to taking concrete actions to drive progress and foster innovation by investing in the research and development of circular products,” explains Paulus Goess, growth and sustainability director Flexible Packaging at Mondi. “We look forward to sharing our successes firsthand at FACHPACK and seeing multiple collaborations with our packaging machine partners come to life.”
Other attendees at this year’s FACHPACK include Syntegon with its machine and software solutions for food packaging, and Constantia Flexibles with a range of sustainability-minded contributions, including its ‘industry-first’ print service for aluminium and PET die-cut dairy lids.
Meanwhile, we recently spoke to Jakub Vilánek, packaging innovation scale manager for flexible packaging at Mondi, to learn more about the company’s paper-based shrink wrap alternative, Hug&Hold.
