Toppan and its subsidiary Toppan Speciality Films (TSF) have installed a hybrid manufacturing line capable of producing both biaxially-oriented polypropylene (BOPP) film and biaxially-oriented polyethylene (BOPE) on the same machine.
India-based TSF is now launching production of BOPE on the new line to cater to diversifying demand. TSF will begin mass production on the new hybrid line from mid-November this year, supplying BOPP and BOPE films to packaging converters and brand owners in sectors such as food and FMCG, in India and globally.
With the introduction of the new line, the TOPPAN Group aims to meet increasing global demand by enhancing supply capacity for its film solutions - including both BOPP and BOPE mono-material film substrates - and to expand TSF’s film production capacity by approximately 40%.
Earlier this year, Toppan entered a definitive agreement to acquire 80% of the issued shares of Italian based BOPP film manufacturer Irplast from the current majority shareholder, investment fund Cheyne Strategic Value Credit. The TOPPAN Group plans to integrate Irplast’s manufacturing technologies for high-performance BOPP films to develop and deliver solutions that meet various customer needs.
In related news, RKW Group has introduced PE films with an integrated EVOH barrier into its RKW Horizon range, based on MDO technology and said to offer ‘a recyclable, sustainable solution’ when combined with RKW’s ProTec sealing films. The RKW Horizon range reportedly meets the high demands of flexible packaging manufacturers for tear resistance, transparency, gloss, printability, and good processability.
