FE Green PET

Malaysian manufacturer FE Green PET states it has secured roughly €30.5 million in financing from HSBC Malaysia for the expansion of its recycled polyethylene terephthalate (rPET) resin production plant in Melaka.

The initiative will support the construction phase and the post-commercial operation of the project. The loan proceeds will be used to finance the acquisition of industrial land and rPET production equipment for the plant’s initial construction phase.

FE Green PET transforms locally sourced PET bottles into high quality rPET resin, utilizing techniques including sorting, cleaning, decontamination and pelletising. The company adds that the new plant will have the capacity to produce 50,000 metric tonnes of rPET from post-consumer recycled (PCR) content annually. The plant aims to contribute to waste reduction by transforming waste into food-grade rPET products for some of FE Green PET’s clients, including beverage brands.

In July, the European PET Bottle Platform (EPBP) announced its Circularity Test Protocol, intended to help industry stakeholders adjust to multi-loop recycling and pursue environmental targets as incoming EU policies set minimum thresholds for rPET content. It is hoped that through the protocol, industry players can maximize resource use, extend product lifespans, facilitate effective recycling and minimize waste.

We recently spoke to Sustainability Awards Finalist SIPA about its XFORM RENEW technology for rPET preforming, said to cut emissions and boost output, nominated in the Commercialized Machinery category. Its high-cavity tooling (up to 200 cavities) is said to enable efficient production, making rPET preforms more economically viable.
