Rotzinger PharmaPack has launched a new filling and capping platform for over-the-counter (OTC) products such as non-aseptic pharmaceuticals as well as solid and liquid products from the cosmetics, personal care, and nutraceutical industries.

The company says its VarioFill solution enables manufacturers and contract fillers to process different products and closures on a single platform, from non-aseptic pharmaceutical liquids such as eye drops and cough syrup to cosmetics such as creams and face serums and solid dosage forms such as tablets and capsules. It can process various packaging materials, shapes and closure types in ‘highly variable output quantities’.

Rotzinger states that the platform also has a small footprint, with space savings of over 50% due to a high degree of automation and exchangeable modules. In the case of frequent product changes, it can be reconfigured to allow new stations and modules to be installed.

Before filling, the containers are fed into the transport system; standing objects such as glass bottles are fed via a belt system, while Rotzinger’s pickFeeder sorts plastic bottles and transfers via delta robots. After the cleaning station, the containers are weighed empty using 100% in-process control (IPC).

The company adds that following filling via seal-less rotary piston pumps or tablet or capsule counters, another IPC is performed and the containers are fitted with snap-on, screw, pump, or crimp closures at several freely configurable closure stations. A cleaning-in-place (CIP) system ensures fully automatic cleaning of product contact parts in the filling area by automatically moving them to the cleaning position, cleaning them thoroughly, and returning them to the production position.

Sidel revealed its EvoFILL Can Compact filling solution in April, claiming it fills up to 40,000 cans of beer, carbonated soft drinks, and other premium beverages every hour. It aims to offer flexibility and space efficiency for the low-to-medium speed production market.
