MULTIVAC has launched W 500, a universal flowpackaging solution that the company says provides increased flexibility and output for packaging food products in pillow packs, while supporting the use of sustainable film- and paper-based materials.

According to MULTIVAC, the addition of the new W 500 horizontal flowpacker to its product range provides customers with more flexibility in packaging a range of food products such as minced meat, burgers, cevapcici, sausages, cheese, and frozen fish. The company adds that bakery products, such as baguettes, croissants, and pizzas, as well as many types of fruit and vegetables, can be also packaged securely in pillow packs with efficient material usage using the flowpacker.

MULITVAC says that its flowpacker is designed to offer low material input and ease of integration into other processes for the packing of pillow packs.

Kim Hüther, executive vice president of tray & pouch packaging at MULTIVAC, explains: “Thanks to the new W 500 in our product range, we can now offer our customers an even greater choice of solutions to meet their exact requirements.

“And with the W 500 as with all our other equipment, we can offer the right packaging materials, so that the pillow packs are environmentally-friendly and recyclable. Being able to offer the complete package is very important to us, and we will continue to expand this, so that we can cover all the future requirements of our customers.

“The main features of the W 500 flowpacker are its easy operation, cleaning and maintenance, as well as an attractive price-to-performance ratio. It can be used as a stand-alone solution, or it can be integrated into an automated line.”

Other features of the flowpacker include the independent speed setting of the rollers for crease-free longitudinal sealing, according to MULTIVAC. The company says that the W 500 also offers reliable cross sealing thanks to precise and recipe-based control of sealing temperature and pressure, as well as an integrated gas analysis system for MAP packaging with a modified atmosphere.

According to the company, all process and pack parameters – such as type of product, pack format, sealing pressure and temperature – are recipe-based and can be set and called up with the user-friendly HMI. The company adds that product changes can also be performed in a short period of time, with the machine components being easily accessible for cleaning and maintenance.

MULTIVAC claims that the W 500 offers an output of up to 120 packs per minute or a film speed of up to 30 metres/minute.

In addition, the company explains that precise servo device technology ensures that maximum speed and optimum process control are achieved. Products with a maximum width of 200mm and a height of up to 120mm can easily be packed by the W 500 with or without a tray, MULTIVAC adds.

MULTIVAC debuted the W 500 flowpacker at Anuga FoodTec 2022 and IFFA 2022 earlier this year.

MULTIVAC also recently launched T 305, a fully automatic traysealer designed for packaging small and medium-sized batches for the food industry.
