Ball AcaiMotion

Ball Brazil and Açai Motion have partnered on a new can certified by the Aluminum Stewardship Initiative (ASI), said to ensure the aluminium used in production adheres to ‘ethical and sustainable practices’ from raw material extraction to recycling.

The new can features Ball’s internal coating technology, designed to extend the beverage’s shelf life and safeguards its flavour and nutritional integrity. The natural energy drink is crafted from açaí and guaraná, ingredients sourced through responsible harvesting methods that benefit local communities while preserving the Amazon rainforest.

The beverage is free from artificial additives and has reduced sugar. By securing ASI certification, both companies seek to reaffirm their dedication to environmental responsibility with Ball continuing to emphasize aluminium as a ‘crucial material’ in its vision for a waste-free future.

Tamires Silvestre, director of sustainability at Ball for South America, stated: “Our collaboration with Açaí Motion showcases how we can support visionary brands in expanding their global footprint with packaging that is both sustainable and high-performing.”

Ball announced a minority investment in Swedish technology company Meadow at the start of 2025, to support the production of fully recyclable aluminium cans as pre-filled cartridges for personal and home care products. Ball seeks to provide a global network of facilities and multi-market reach for the company’s solution, MEADOW KAPSUL.

The following month, a report from Metal Packaging Europe and European Aluminium showed the overall recycling rate for aluminium beverage cans in the European Union, United Kingdom, Switzerland, Norway and Iceland was 74.6%, with the total amount of aluminium recycled from cans increased to a ‘record level’ of 580,000 tonnes. Apparently, the increase in recycled aluminium volume reflects a higher overall consumption of aluminium beverage cans in 2022, which resulted in more cans entering the recycling stream.
