Grupo Lantero

Grupo Lantero’s mono-material PET packaging with resealing technology aims to keep food fresh for longer. Nominated as a Finalist in the Pre-Commercialized Recyclable Packaging category of the Sustainability Awards, we spoke to Álvaro Bernad, director of Innovation, Marketing and Sustainability at Grupo Lantero, to find out more about this innovation.

You’re a finalist for the Sustainability Awards 2025. Congratulations! To begin, could you summarize your entry in less than 50 words?

ReKeepEat is a mono-material PET packaging solution with advanced resealing technology, designed to preserve food freshness longer, reduce waste and simplify recycling. Developed at Innotech by Coexpan and Emsur, it embodies Grupo Lantero’s commitment to circularity and responsible innovation.

Why do you think the judges were impressed with your entry? Tell us what’s innovative about your project and/or its impact on packaging sustainability.

ReKeepEat combines high recyclability with functional design. Its mono-material PET tray and lid avoid material mixing, enabling easier recycling and integration of recycled content. The resealing system enhances usability and food preservation, while its versatility supports various formats - from sliced meats to ready meals - with different levels of barrier according to product requirements. This makes it a scalable solution for brands pursuing genuine sustainability.

The project’s eco-design minimizes material use and environmental impact across the product’s life cycle. Its development at Innotech reflects Grupo Lantero’s collaborative innovation model. Its recognition at CONAMA and the Foodtech Innovation Awards confirms its disruptive value in the packaging sector.

Finally, can you tell us about the ongoing development of your project, for example, how your innovation/initiative was received by the industry or what the next steps are in commercialization/product development?

ReKeepEat has generated strong interest across the industry and has been acknowledged by prestigious sustainability and innovation awards. Although it cannot be found on the shelves yet, the solution is currently in the validation phase with key clients.

Next steps include industrial testing, regulatory alignment and full market launch. Grupo Lantero continues to promote ReKeepEat as a benchmark in circular packaging innovation.

The winners of the Sustainability Awards 2025 will be announced at the Sustainable Packaging Summit, taking place in Utrecht on 10-12 November. The Summit mobilizes leaders of the FMCG value chain, policymakers, NGOs, recyclers and investors to collaborate, remove barriers and identify opportunities on the road to sustainable transformation.
