Barberan Spotlight 1

Barberán’s portfolio of digital printing solutions ranges from applications for signage and corrugated board to systems incorporating artificial vision camera inspection. The company details its history and its recent innovations in this Spotlight.

Barberán, a company with nearly a century of industrial experience, began its journey in the printing world in the 1970s with the development of engraved roller printing machines for the furniture industry. This indirect printing system, based on engraved metal rollers transferring designs onto rubber applicators and then onto panels, set the foundation for decades of innovation.

Building on this expertise, Barberán later expanded into flexographic printing solutions for the packaging industry, further strengthening its position in industrial printing. In 2005, the company took a decisive step into the future by entering the digital printing market with its BIJ series, which eventually evolved into the well-known Jetmaster range. This “Single Pass” technology quickly gained recognition, earning multiple innovation awards within the furniture and decoration sectors.

Since 2013, Barberán has successfully brought its Single Pass digital printing technology to the packaging industry, supplying solutions globally for applications such as corrugated board, displays, and signage. Today, the company is widely regarded as a benchmark in high-speed digital printing for corrugated cardboard.

Continuous innovation remains at the core of Barberán’s strategy. Its advanced systems incorporate artificial vision camera inspection to detect and correct potential defects during production in real time. In addition, close collaboration with UV-curable ink manufacturers ensures constant development and optimization of printing performance, quality, and efficiency.

A clear example of how this technology is transforming the industry can be seen in Digital Print Partners (DPP), a U.S. based company located in Bolingbrook, Illinois. Launched in September 2024 as a greenfield startup, DPP specializes in digitally pre-printed corrugated sheets supplied to packaging and POP display converters. As they describe it, their mission is to be “more than a link in the print supply chain,” positioning themselves as an extension of their customers’ production capabilities.

DPP’s leadership is built on deep industry expertise. Its lean, highly experienced team includes general manager Karin Mander, supported by a board of directors composed of executives from multiple independent print facilities across the United States. This combination of operational knowledge and strategic vision has allowed DPP to identify key opportunities in the market.

Their business model focuses on regions with strong demand for printed packaging but limited access to advanced digital printing technology. By offering competitive quality, fast turnaround times, and reliable production, DPP helps alleviate bottlenecks in these markets.

When selecting a technology partner, reliability was a critical factor. DPP’s stakeholders had experience with equipment from around the world, including various single-pass digital solutions. Ultimately, Barberán stood out due to its proven track record and the launch of its second-generation single-pass line in 2020, already installed in multiple facilities worldwide. Improvements in speed, automation, and print quality made it the right choice for DPP’s ambitious project.

According to DPP, working with Barberán feels more like a partnership than a supplier relationship. The support provided during the startup phase, along with ongoing technical assistance and on-site collaboration during customer events, has been instrumental to their success.

DPP reports strong satisfaction with the performance of its Jetmaster 2.0 line, particularly in terms of throughput and reliability. The system is currently operating at increasing capacity, producing POP displays and packaging for local industries and partners in the Chicago area.

Looking ahead, DPP strongly recommends Barberán’s Jetmaster series to companies considering investment in high-speed, wide-format digital printing. Their experience highlights how the combination of innovative technology and strong partnership can re-define production capabilities and open new opportunities in the evolving digital printing landscape.
