Retail technology company Jisp launches an augmented reality (AR) vouchering system, Scan & Save, with Nisa stores and technology from Scandit, which allows customers to scan barcodes on packaging for exclusive promotions.
The company says that the vouchering system will allow customers to save up to 60% on more than 65 products across the store, including brands such as Mondelez, PepsiCo, Kelloggs, Molson Coors, and Nomad Foods.
It adds that the system combines mobile computer company Scandit’s AR technology with Jisp’s consumer app. Scan & Save, it says, reads product barcodes on packaging and presents promotions that customers can save and redeem on their mobile phones.
According to Samuel Mueller, CEO at Scandit: “Augmented reality is the future of retail to both enhance the customer experience, and evolve the physical store from traditional point of sale to display more dynamic, up-to-date information.

Jisp claims that the system will help brands to focus on minimising carbon footprint by reducing the need for in-store POS, while apparently improving communication with customers and promoting sales.
Retailers will also be remunerated for each scan and redemption of the voucher, reportedly creating opportunities for brands to incentivise store owners and build loyalty.
In addition, Scan & Save will support brands and retailers’ marketing efforts once HFSS (high in fat, sugar and salt) legislation comes into force in October 2022.
The company says that the AR vouchers will only appear to customers actively looking to purchase a product in the HFSS category. It adds that Scan & Save will help to ensure compliance with the regulation.

With Scan & Save, customers will receive branded promotions at the point-of-sale. This will allow retailers to deliver personalised campaigns to individual customers based on their profile and shopping habits in the Jisp app, as well as location.

The Scan & Save system will initially be launched in 12 Nisa stores across the UK.
