Toyo Ink Europe

Toyo Ink Europe has revealed its Steraflex GIO flexographic printing ink, said to offer ‘superb’ print and press performance on most label substrates, sleeves and other applications where migration is a key priority.

Steraflex GIO is said to be fully compliant with EuPIA, Swiss Ordinance, the latest ECHA SVHC list and other European regulatory requirements including the German Ink Ordinance. Formulated with a binder system, the new ink is designed to deliver enhanced adhesion across a range of substrates, from standard films to demanding label materials.

According to Toyo Ink Europe, this ink demonstrates significantly improved bond strength compared to its predecessor, even on low surface tension substrates like BOPP, enabling converters and brands to have greater versatility in materials and applications without compromising on print quality or safety.

“With increasing regulatory scrutiny on food packaging inks, compliance and transparency are more important than ever,” said Ismail Yilmaz, general manager of Sales & Corporate Strategy at Toyo Ink Europe. “Steraflex GIO is free from intentionally added photo initiator 379, ensuring it aligns with the current and upcoming requirements under the German Ink Ordinance. This gives printers and brand owners peace of mind when producing packaging for more sensitive applications, particularly in the food and pharmaceutical sector.”

In related news, Brilliant Group has announced its new Low Migration Fluorescent Ink Base (LMB) series for lithographic ink systems, seeking to address increasing industry demand for food-safe, compliant, and high-performance printing solutions. The company adds that the ink base is designed to enable ink makers to formulate with greater flexibility, improving efficiency and performance.

Last month adhesive and industrial printing company Boston Industrial Solutions introduced what it claims is ‘the world’s first’ adhesion promoter to help latex-based inks bond effectively with acrylic and metals, aiming to tackle the issue of latex ink adhesion to acrylic surfaces in the signage industry. This digital primer enhances the ink’s impact strength, flexibility, weatherability, adhesion, and abrasion resistance.
