Win Win Water has launched its bottled water featuring ‘100% plant-based’ fully biodegradable bottles made from TotalEnergies Corbion’s Luminy PLA material, aiming to address the environmental challenges of traditional plastic bottles while providing consumers with high-quality alkaline electrolyte water.

Apparently, the new bottles - including the label and lid - are crafted from Luminy PLA made from sugarcane. The sugarcane is said to be ‘ethically farmed and sustainably sourced’ to ensure a toxin-free product.

Designed for rapid biodegradation, the bottles reportedly break down within 90 days in commercial composting facilities. Total Energies Corbion adds that despite their compostability, the bottles are durable enough for multiple reuses.

Win Win Water hopes to reduce the environmental impact of bottled water by using renewable, plant-based materials and supporting initiatives that remove ocean plastic while empowering vulnerable communities.

Derek Atkinson, vice president of Sales at TotalEnergies Corbion, believes that Win Win Water is “revolutionizing sustainable hydration with natural alkaline electrolyte spring water.” He continued: “more and more water companies are using PLA bottles, contributing to end plastic pollution due to the recyclable and compostable nature of Luminy PLA bioplastics.”

In related news, last year Bottle Up claimed to provide the first ‘fully reusable, pre-filled, plant-based water bottle’ sold in the UK. Aiming to become a renewable and recyclable alternative to single-use plastic bottles, the company turns sugar cane from Brazilian grasslands into BPA-free water bottles.

NBCo recently presented its ‘disappearing’ fibre-based bottle at the 2025 World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos, intended as a replacement for conventional plastic bottles. Said to be up to 99% recyclable and biodegradable in the natural environment, the solution seeks to conserve resources and minimize strain on waste systems.
