Theegarten-Pactec announces plans to showcase its new prototype packaging solution, the CHS, its modular high-performance packaging machine for chocolate products featuring the newly integrated ‘envelope fold’ packaging type.

The CHS packaging machine was originally developed to packaging chocolate products “in a careful and gentle way”. The company says that, in 2020, it optimised the machine for the packaging style known as double-twist wrapping, apparently resulting in an output of up to 1,800 products per minute.

In addition, the machine can reportedly work with nine different packaging types: double twist, protected twist, top twist, side twist, foil wrap, bottom fold, side fold, Vienna fruit fold, and now the envelope fold that will be integrated into the CHS prototype Theegarten-Pactec is planning to demonstrate at the ProSweets supplier trade fair in Cologne next year.

According to the company, the machine allows the wrapping style and format to be switched without four hours, with the majority of changes only requiring one person. Customers are allegedly able to respond quickly to new market requirements, such as resized chocolate products.

Theegarten-Pactec claims that the modular design makes it ideal for products and wrapping styles with varying demand depending on season, reportedly offering high-capacity utilisation throughout the year with increasingly shorter product life cycles. The company adds that the machine’s wrapping styles are easy to retrofit no matter how the CHS was configured when purchased, enhancing the machine’s flexibility.

The new CHS prototype will build on the company’s previous innovations. For example, Theegarten-Pactec says that whereas the CHS could previous pack products 16 to 45 mm long, the new system offers a range of lengths between 16 and 60 mm, while the width has been adjusted to offer 12 to 35 mm (compared to the previous 12 to 25 mm).

The machine will also be able to wrap circle-shaped products with a diameter of 12 to 35 mm, and dome-shaped products with a diameter of 16 to 33 mm and a height of 12 to 28 mm, according to the company.

The machine originally entered industrial trials in March 2021. Additional industrial trials for the CHS model slated to follow the ProSweets trade fair air aiming to achieve an output of 1,200 products per minute via a single-track infeed and as many as 1,600 products per minute with two tracks.

The ProSweets trade fair will run from the 30th of January to the 2nd of February 2022 in Cologne, Germany. Theegarten-Pactec will be at Stand G020 H029 in Hall 10.1.

At ProSweets in 2018, Theegarten-Pactec presented the MCH, a continuous operation ‘two head’ machine with flexibility for seasonal products like chocolate eggs at Easter. In the same year, the company displayed its flexible CWM2 wrapping machine for chocolate products with fast changeover for folding type and dimensions at IPACK-IMA.
